The South South Zonal Directors of Sports have assigned hosting duties for the zonal elimination of team sports for the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Games to Rivers and Edo State. This decision was made following a routine meeting in Yenagoa with the South South Directors and the Zonal Coordinator from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

In a nine-point communiqué, they expressed gratitude to Bayelsa for hosting the meeting and underscored the importance of cooperation and support among members for the zone’s advancement.

Additionally, they acknowledged the contributions of the zone’s governors to sports development and emphasized adherence to rules in the National Youth Games to prevent age cheating.

Edo State was designated to host the zonal elimination for team sports for the National Youth Games, with letters to be sent to the governors of both Rivers and Edo State regarding the hosting arrangements. The meeting concluded with plans for a courtesy visit to states in the zone, with Cross River set to host the next Director of Sports meeting.

Chairman Sir Braveman Wodi highlighted the meeting’s focus on enhancing sports development and preparations for upcoming events. Zonal Coordinator Mr. Essiet Obong Sylvester emphasized the importance of cooperation for sports progress and discussed the need to maintain the age range for youth games.

Chief Daniel Igali, the commissioner for Sports Development, praised the South South Zonal Directors for their visit to Bayelsa and emphasized fair competition and anti-doping efforts in sports.

Attendees included Directors of Sports from Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta State.
