Governor Diri gave the rallying charge during the Prosperity Walk on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, as he bid farewell to the athletes and officials heading to Abeokuta, Ogun State, the host city of the festival.
“I know it won’t be an easy task — winning the National Sports Festival takes more than talent, it demands discipline, focus, and unity. But I believe Team Bayelsa has what it takes to finish number one this time,” the Governor said with conviction.
He recalled that during his tenure as Commissioner for Youth and Sports in 2006, Bayelsa State finished 4th at the Gateway Games. Since then, the state has climbed steadily up the ranks — securing 3rd place in Benin City and 2nd place in Asaba in recent editions.
“Now, the only position left for us is 1st place. That’s the goal. That’s the dream. And I believe this team can achieve it,” he added.
The governor also urged the athletes and officials to exhibit good conduct, remain focused, and uphold the values of sportsmanship as worthy ambassadors of the state.
