The Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has given cash awards to medalists at the concluded National Wrestling Championship / 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classic.
Governor Diri presented cash awards of five hundred thousand Naira, two hundred thousand Naira, and one hundred thousand Naira for gold, silver, and bronze medal winners, respectively, during the state’s weekly jogging exercise on Thursday, 14th November 2024.
The Governor also announced a two million Naira award to Team Bayelsa at the wrestling event. Additionally, he revealed a cash reward of one million Naira for the state’s wrestling club.
While announcing the cash rewards, Governor Diri emphasized the need for athletes to win gold and stated that, from henceforth, he will only give awards to deserving athletes and teams that win gold medals.
It will be recalled that the 13th National Wrestling Championship / 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classic was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from 5th to 9th November 2024, with Bayelsa State’s wrestling team emerging as overall winners.
