Yenagoa, Nigeria – The stage is set for the women’s draw of Nigeria’s premier grassroots football event, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup 2025. Organizers have confirmed Thursday, April 17, 2025, as the official date for the highly anticipated draw ceremony.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Women’s Tournament Committee, Mr. Ebi Avi, the draw will take place at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, immediately following the weekly Prosperity Walk. The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, is expected to grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour.

Women’s Prosperity Cup Draw Guidelines and Deadlines

Participating teams have been instructed to send at least one official representative to the draw session. Teams are also required to submit their completed registration forms by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. According to Mr. Avi, any team that fails to meet the registration deadline will be considered withdrawn from the tournament.

“The response so far has been encouraging, with a good number of female teams already registered,” Mr. Avi stated. He further emphasized the importance of adhering to tournament rules and regulations to avoid disqualification.

Developing Grassroots Women’s Football in Bayelsa

Mr. Avi praised the tireless efforts of the Director General of the Prosperity Cup, Mr. Ono Akpe, and his team for their commitment to discovering and nurturing homegrown female football talents. He expressed confidence that some standout players from the tournament could earn a spot in the Bayelsa Queens, one of Nigeria’s top women’s football clubs.

The committee also extended appreciation to Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, for their unwavering support in promoting women’s sports and creating opportunities for young girls across Bayelsa State.
