Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi, has on behalf of the council congratulated Governor Douye Diri on the occasion of the prosperity government’s five-year anniversary.

Sir Wodi, in a congratulatory message, said Governor Diri in the last five years has shown steadfastness and dedication to Bayelsa State’s growth and the prosperity of the people, describing the last five years of the Diri-led administration as remarkable.

The statement notes that the governor’s commitment to transparency and accountability has revolutionized the sports sector, where Bayelsa now competes favorably with their peers in any national competition.

According to the statement, the performance of the state athletes in the last five years of the prosperity government speaks volumes of the governor’s passion for the development of sports, pointing out that Bayelsa has gone beyond participating in tournaments to winning laurels.

It notes that the governor’s commitment to sports development has ensured that Bayelsa finishes second and third in the last two national sports festivals in Asaba and Benin City, defending the National Para Games in Abuja, and Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens emerging as Aiteo Cup champions on the same day in Benin City, Edo State.

It explains that apart from infrastructure, the State has witnessed remarkable achievements with Bayelsa Queens finishing third in the CAF Women’s Champions League, St. Jude’s Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS) winning the Nestlé Milo Basketball Championship, and Timma Godbless representing the country on the global stage.

It further explains that under the prosperity government, Bayelsa United have returned to the top-flight of Nigerian football after seven years in the wilderness of the Nigeria National League (NNL), saying that the sector is happy to have Governor Diri as helmsman.

The statement equally appreciates the governor for conceiving the vision to construct an ultra-modern stadium in Yenagoa, maintaining that the gesture has further demonstrated the governor’s unparalleled love for sports.

The Odi-born sports administrator prayed to Almighty God to continue to grant the state helmsman the wisdom and the needed resources to complete the new stadium in Igbogene, Yenagoa, the state capital.
