New Dates Announced for 22nd National Sports Festival, Ogun 2025

The Joint Technical Committee for the 22nd National Sports Festival, Ogun 2024, has approved new dates for the Games to align with the evolving direction of sports in Nigeria and allow more time to implement recommendations from the joint technical meeting.

According to a communiqué jointly signed by Adebukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission/Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, and Wasiu Isiaka, Commissioner for Sports Development, Ogun State, the Gateway Games will now take place from May 16 to 30, 2025.

In addition, the zonal eliminations for team sports are scheduled for February 23 to 28, 2025.

Starting with the 22nd edition, athletes discovered at the National Youth Games in selected sports will be invited to participate in the National Sports Festival as Invited Junior Athletes, as part of a grand plan to nurture their talent and help them excel.

During the deliberations, the committee praised the Federal Government for its commitment to sports development in Nigeria, highlighted by the creation of a dedicated Commission to oversee sports affairs.

The committee also expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun, MFR, the Government, and the people of Ogun State for their warm hospitality and dedication to hosting the 22nd National Sports Festival.

Special commendations were extended to Chief Kunle Soname and the management of Babcock University for their support in organizing the Games.

The 1st Joint Technical Meeting for the 22nd National Sports Festival took place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Mitros Residence and Suites, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The meeting was preceded by a technical assessment and inspection of the proposed venues and facilities, conducted by all major stakeholders.

As part of the resolutions, it was agreed that a 2nd Joint Technical Meeting and Inspection visit would be necessary to address all observed issues ahead of the Games.
