Team Bayelsa has kicked off its campaign at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State — tagged the “Gateway Games” — with an impressive medal haul after Day One of competition.

The contingent has already secured 17 medals, including 12 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze, signaling a strong push for overall dominance.

Weightlifting proved a goldmine for the team, contributing 6 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze, while Kung-fu athletes dazzled by clinching another 6 gold and 2 silver medals in a powerful showcase of martial arts excellence.

Adding to the excitement, Haruna Habibat of Bayelsa has advanced to the final of the individual female Poomsae event in Taekwondo, raising hopes for another podium finish.

With such a dominant start, Team Bayelsa has sent a clear message to rivals — they are in Abeokuta not just to compete, but to conquer.
