The Nigeria Wrestling Federation recently recognized several distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to wrestling and sports development in Nigeria.
Among the honorees were Bayelsa State’s Deputy Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo Lawrence, Ph.D., and Mr. Ama-ebi Ebikpoladei Stow, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association.
Other notable awardees included Nigeria’s Controller General of Customs, Alhaji Adewale Adeniye; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko; and Managing Director of North Chinese Construction Company Ltd, Mr. Osakwe Osadebe.
These awards recognized the recipients’ unwavering support for the Nigeria Wrestling Federation and their significant roles in promoting wrestling and sports development in Nigeria. Their contributions were especially highlighted during the 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics, held in Yenagoa from November 5-9, 2024.
Mr. Ama-ebi Ebikpoladei Stow was also recognized for founding the Ama-ebi Wrestling Club in Bayelsa State during the 13th National Wrestling Championship / 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics. His initiative reflects his deep commitment to sports development in both Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony of the wrestling classics, His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, praised Mr. Ama-ebi’s significant contributions to sports in the state. “I thank you for your support, and I always see you around in all my programs,” Governor Diri said, acknowledging Stow’s ongoing involvement in government initiatives.
These prestigious awards underscore the vital role of individual contributions to sports development in Nigeria and reflect the Nigeria Wrestling Federation’s gratitude for the recipients’ ongoing support.
