Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi says he is pleased with the performance of the state contingent in the zonal elimination for the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
Team Bayelsa arrived in Benin City, Edo State for zonal elimination for the National Youth Games slated for 9th through the 20th of September 2024 in Asaba.
Sir Wodi in an interview with journalists, said team Bayelsa qualified for all the sports they came with for the zonal elimination in both male and female, describing the outing as impressive for the state.
He explained that Bayelsa football team qualified for both male and female, handball male secured qualification as well, rugby who fielded only male team progress for the games, volleyball male and female were not left out of the qualification.
According to him, the team is going for the National Youth Games in Asaba to give the state a good representation due to its brilliant outing in the elimination for the team sports.
Sir Wodi noted that Bayelsa has gone beyond the level of participation and appearing in tournaments but to win in every competition, stating that winning has become a culture in the state.
The Odi born sports administrator lauded the governor Senator Douye Diri and his deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for giving sports the maximum attention, pointing out that the sector has never had it so good.
He equally appreciated the commissioner for Sports Development Dr. Daniel Igali for perfecting the vision of the governor.
Team Bayelsa qualified in both male and female in Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Football, Beach Volleyball, while the male Handball and Rugby team also progressed to the games in Asaba.
