Team Bayelsa has departed Yenagoa the State capital for the second edition of the National Para Festival in Abuja Nigeria’s capital slated to commence from 8th to 15th of December, 2023.
Bayelsa State last year won the maiden edition in Abuja with a total of 95 medal comprising, 30 gold, 33 Silver, 32 Bronze outperforming 34 other states including the federal capital territory, Abuja.
Team Bayelsa traveled for the fiesta with about 250 contingents to participate in eleven sports which include para swimming, Para canoeing, para power lifting, Para Karate,Para taekwondo, para wheelchair tennis,para table tennis, para badminton, para cycling and para athletics.
The opening ceremony of the Nigeria’s version of the Paralympics is expected to take place tomorrow at the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola Stadium with the games kicking off on Saturday.
In an interview, Head Coach of the Bayelsa State Para team taekwondo Judith Williams, said they are prepared for the showpiece, expressing optimism of a good outing during the games.
She noted that her target in the fiesta is to clinch gold having won the maiden edition of the spectacle a year ago.
