It’s track time for Team Bayelsa as the athletics squad begins its campaign at the 22nd National Sports Festival today, Friday, May 23, 2025, at the prestigious M.K.O Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

With the sun rising over Day 1 of athletics action, Bayelsa’s athletes are geared up to make a strong statement on the tartan tracks, competing across multiple sprint, jump, and endurance events.

👟 Schedule Highlights for Day 1

Bayelsa will be represented in all four scheduled events on the opening day of athletics, starting bright and early at 7:00 AM.

  • 🏃‍♀️ Women’s 10km Walk
    Representing Bayelsa is Queensley Asedo, kicking off the day’s competition with stamina and stride.
  • 🏃‍♂️ Men’s 100m Sprint
    The trio of Lucky Daje, Augustine Ezuiruike, and David Shalom will carry Bayelsa’s hopes in the explosive short sprint.
  • 🏃‍♀️ Women’s 100m Sprint
    On the women’s side, Sophia Efetoboere, Sigah Perezide, and Iyanu Vivian are set to bring the speed.
  • 🏃‍♀️ Women’s Long Jump
    Hope Aruya will aim to soar in the field event later in the day.
  • 🏃 Mixed 4x400m Relay
    Wrapping up the day will be the mixed relay team featuring Ezechukwu Faith, Sarah Lori, Bright Benson, and Tamunotonye Abagwu.
