Championship Enters Final Day

Bayelsa’s Solomon Ulabo clinched his second gold medal at the ongoing 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Ulabo triumphed over former National Champion Matthias Okuma (Edo State) with an 8-0 technical superiority in the thrilling 82kg Greco-Roman final. He had previously secured a gold medal in the men’s freestyle 79kg by defeating Noel Ebiton Simplify on Friday.

In the Men’s Freestyle 70kg category, Tope Adebayo of Ondo State emerged victorious, showcasing his aggression and technique to dominate his opponents and earn the gold medal.

In other weight categories, Dominic Nnalue won the gold medal in the men’s 55kg Greco-Roman event, while Dick Enienobodi of Edo State claimed the gold in the men’s 60kg Greco-Roman event.

In the Women’s Freestyle categories, Ebipatae Mughenbofa of host Bayelsa won the gold in the 68kg category, and Dami Ojo of Ondo State took home the top prize in the 76kg category.

The competition continues on Saturday, with wrestlers like Mercy Genesis and Esther Kolawole set to take the mat, thrilling spectators, including Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), and other dignitaries.

An elated Solomon Ulabo, in an interview with journalists, credited his victory to his coaches’ efforts and expressed his aim to win an international medal.
