The opening ceremony which signaled the commencement of the 2023 National Para-Games had in attendance Nigeria’s Honourable Minister for sports development, Sen John Eno . In his address to the participants, the Honorable minister highlighted the Federal government’s policy trust for the National Para-Games . He noted that the games offers an opportunity for inclusivity in sports which will make the nation honor the skills and talents of Para athletes . The minister for sports officially declared the games open on behalf of the President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, Sen. Bola Tinubu.
On Day one of the games, Bayelsa State athletes performed brilliantly in Para-badminton events. Ebikonboere Lyka Brown and Godgift John both Athletes representing Bayelsa State won Silver medals in Badminton singles event at the 2023 National Para- games.
Our correspondent, Mr Akpaditei Elijah, who monitored events at the Stadium reported that the two silver medalists were delighted at their performances at the games and attributed their success to the support they received from the sports loving governor of Bayelsa State and support from the Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Sports and the Director of sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council.
Athletes will return to action on Sunday,10th December 2023 with Team Bayelsa hopeful of medal hauls.
